Gérard Mourou, Nobel Prize in Physics, visits the Ampère Museum

On October 6, 2022 the Ampère Museum was honored to receive a visit from Gérard Mourou, 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics, accompanied by his wife.

After a time of exchange with the volunteers of the Society of Friends of André-Marie Ampère (SAAMA) in the gardens of the Museum, Gérard Mourou received a certificate of honorary membership of the SAAMA, from the hands of Alfonso San Miguel, President of the SAAMA. Also present were François Gerin, president of the Société de l'Électricité, de l'Électronique et des TIC (SEE), Georges Boulon, president of the Académie de Sciences Belles Lettres et Arts de Lyon, and Patrick Leclerc, president of the Rhône-Bourgogne section of the SEE.

Gérard Mourou thus joins the dozen or so Nobel Prize winners in physics or chemistry who support the Ampère Museum since its creation.

The 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics then visited the Ampère Museum, guided by Bernard Pallandre, the Museum's curator, and showing particular interest in the Ampère tables where André-Marie Ampère did his research or teaching.

Gérard Mourou was the sponsor of "Ampère 200 years", a series of commemorations of the bicentenary of André-Marie Ampère's discoveries, which ended the day before his visit to the Museum, on October 5, with a ceremony in the salons of the Rhône Prefecture.
