The estate: historical heritage
Vue aérienne de la Maison Ampère
It consists of a large stone house from Couzon dating from the middle of the 17th century, perfectly preserved, adjoining a large meadow and a vineyard still exploited today.
André-Marie Ampère lived there during his youth with his family. It is here that his extensive reading of Diderot and d'Alembert's encyclopedia and numerous works of classical literature, Latin, botany, and mathematics enabled him to become the brilliant scientist we know,
The collections are presented in the various rooms of this house which evoke the atmosphere of the life of a bourgeois family at the end of the 18th century.
Just like Ampère's family, you will appreciate the shady and soothing setting of the place, especially during the summer months, as the effects of the strong heat are mitigated there.

Le moulin Ampère
The village of Poleymieux au Mont d'Or has kept the characteristic aspect of the villages of the golden stones region.
In the surroundings, many walks and hikes allow you to discover a preserved nature with restored huts and paths surrounded by low dry stone walls.
You can plan a hike from the museum which follows the footsteps of Ampère who loved to herborize in this countryside and where he met his future wife Julie, inhabitant of Saint Germain au Mont d'Or, near the mill located at the Croix Rampaux.
